GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The
Steelpro section is the main component of the whole line and performs the
functions of strip guiding, trimming and/or slitting, leveling and cutting the
strip to predetermined length on a continuous basis. It consists of and entry
unit, slitter, Flattener, Flying shear, shear accelerating mechanism, DC drive
and controls
With
the exception of electrical controls which are housed in a separate operators
console, all components parts of the Steelpro section are mounted on a weld
steel base with provision for anchoring to floor. The pinch rolls of the entry
Unit, slitter arbors, flattener rolls and the shear accelerator are powered by
a single DC motor through gear reducers and universal drive shafts. This
results in a compact and close-coupled arrangement of Steelpro sub-units and
provides speed synchronism between all working rolls and the flying shear. The
speed of the line is infinitely variable up to the maximum of 100 Ft/min.
ENTRY GUIDE
Comprised
of two lower and one upper driven rolls of tubular construction followed by a
set of driven solid pinch rolls. All rolls are carried in anti-friction rollers
bearings. Rotating entry strip guides are adjustable mounted in the first two
lower rolls permitting manual setting for different strip widths. Each roll
carries two guides collars in two take up bearing blocks and is vertically
adjustable to provide a limited amount of roll penetration into the strip to
ensure a limited curvature correcting effect.
The
pinch rolls pull the material through the entry unit into the slitting section.
Both rolls are made of alloy steel. They are hardened and ground. The upper
roll is lowered and raised by a diaphragm type pneumatic cylinder and manually
controlled valve.

SLITTER
This
unit is capable of performing a maximum of four cuts in material gauges up to
.125 or 4 cuts in heavier gauges. It is intended to slit the incoming material
into a maximum of three strands. This in gauges up to .125 It may be used for
taking two slitting cuts and two edge trimming cuts, while in gauges above
.075
Either
two slitting cuts or two edge trimming cuts are possible. In either case 9
outside diameter slitter knives should be used.
The
slitter drive side arbor support is stationary, while operators side arbor support
is removable for tooling changes. Lower arbor is fixed; upper arbor adjustable
vertically by independent jacking screws to facilitate knife set u or removal.
Both arbors are carried in tapered roller bearings at the drive side and needle
roller bearings at the operators side.

The
slitter arbors are driven by universal drive shafts from the pinion stand. A
set of slitting knifes and adjustable knife holders are included.
FOUR (4) HIGH FLATTENER
This
Unit is capable of imparting commercial flatness to steel strip in the range
from approximately .01 to .125 thick. In this range the material is worked
plastically to sufficient depth to achieve satisfactory flatness. It is less
effective in this respect when steel strip of thickness bellow .020 is being
processed.
The
unit consists of nine (9) flattener work rolls, a set of pinch rolls at the
entry end and a combination pinch and measuring roll at the exit end.
The
flattener section is consisting of four over five roll design. The last top
roll being provided to correct the curl imparted to the strip by the last
bottom rolls. All Rolls are alloy steel, hardened and ground. They are
supported by needle roller bearings. All lower flattening rolls and pinch rolls
are fixed; upper rolls are banked adjustable in the vertical plane by a screw
jack arrangement with inter-connecting shafts to permit synchronized roll
penetration into the material to be achieved from the operator side of the
machine.
The
upper pinch roll at the entry end and the measuring roll located at the
flattener exit end are raised or lowered by air cylinders actuated by manual
valves.
All
rolls (with the exception of the measuring roll) are powered by universal drive
shaft and a pinion stand.

FLYING SHEAR
This
unit will be an hydraulic operator down cut shear. The shear will move with the
material and cut from a predetermined electronic signal. The housing will be
welded steel construction mounted in anti-friction cam rolls on hardened rails.
The
upper knife holder will move on four posts with bronze sliders. And will be
actuated by hydraulic cylinders, equalized by a rack and pinion arrangement.
The
knives will be high carbon, high chrome steel with 4 cutting edges.
The
upper knife is fixed and the lower knife bolster is adjustable for clearance by
jackscrews.

DIE ACCELERATOR
The
die accelerator consists of
two racks driven by pinions through an air clutch to the main drive. The shear
is returned by an air cylinder and held at O by absorbers.
DRIVE
The
Steelpro Unit is powered by a DC motor coupled to a worm gear reducer which
in turn is closed to a pinion stand with twelve output shafts. Universal drive
shafts are employed to supply power to all working rolls. An additional
universal drive shaft supplied power to the shear accelerator.

LUBRICATION
Worm
gear reducers are splash lubricated. A circulating oil system provides
lubrication for gears and bearings of the pinion stand. Roll bearings and other
points are manually lubricated through individual grease fittings.

Conveyor
rolls will be tubular steel rolls, turning in anti-friction bearings on fixed
shaft.
Shafts
are mounted on welded steel frame. Rolls are driven roll-to-roll through a
chain and sprocket arrangement by a hydraulic motor. The table is raised and
lowered by a manual valve.
Hydraulic
power from central hydraulic system.
Item 8. SHEET STACKER (See
above photo)
Technical
data:
Two
full width conveyor rolls, provide support for the blanks as they transfer into
the stack in chambers. Separator curtains are provided. Each curtain is a flat
steel plate mounted in screw clamps at each end. The stop is manually adjusted.
FRAME
MOUNTING The frame is mounted in V grooved wheels, running on track at 90
deg. to the line to allow clearance for pack removal.
